Gordon Hanson, Director
Gordon Hanson is a professor of economics at UC San Diego, and holds faculty positions in the School of International Relations and Pacific Studies and the Department of Economics. Hanson is also a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) and co-editor of the Journal of Development Economics. Prior to joining UC San Diego in 2001, he was on the economics faculty at the University of Michigan (1998-2001) and at the University of Texas (1992-1998).

Derek Brendel, Program Coordinator
Derek is a California native and completed his undergraduate degree at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego. He holds an M.A. in sport management from London Metropolitan University. Derek has worked professionally in various capacities ranging from interning for the U.S. Department of State in The Hague, Netherlands to sailing around the world coordinating activities on-board a floating university known as The Scholarship.
Derek is responsible for organizing and managing the Pacific Leadership Fellows program, planning Center events and conferences, and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Center.
